Challenges and Opportunities in Remote Working for Testers

With remote working gradually becoming the ‘new normal’ across the globe, the workplace is evolving and, consequently, we must embrace and recognize this evolution. In doing so, it is fundamental to tackle the issues linked to remote working and to promote the opportunities that come with it.

Software testing is no exception to this. Globally, testing teams have had to adapt to working from separate locations, educating themselves about effective collaboration, communication, and coordination. QA managers have had to switch their management styles, priorities, and tools to ones better suited for the situation.

These changes have naturally emerged with a set of challenges for testers and managers. The challenges of remote testing are anything ranging from communication issues, technical chaos, to product release delay.

However, remote work is becoming a trend and is being highly accepted by businesses across the globe. This pandemic-induced alliteration of workspace shift has increased productivity and reduced maintenance and on-premises costs considerably. Cloud computing is making the shift scalable and convenient in many ways. Since the ongoing digital transformation has visibly increased the cloud migration of enterprises, it is sure to impact the working patterns.

Also, we cannot neglect the opportunities that virtual work offers. Some of the proven benefits of working remotely are an increase in productivity and in the quality of work, a higher engagement and increased profitability for the firm.

As it is evident, these qualities of virtual work demonstrate how it represents a great opportunity both for employees and for firms. At the same time, there are still several adjustments companies must make before e-work may become completely effective in creating an ideal work environment.
